Camping on the Beach
Spending time near the water can be a great part of any camping trip. Beach combing can yield interesting treasures. You might enjoy floating lazily in the water and watching the clouds drifting by above you. Water games (make sure you include a little splashing!) or swimming out to a dock may suit you. Paddling slowly down a river or spending tranquil hours fishing in a serene lake could be just what the doctor ordered. No doubt about it, many activities can be enjoyed when you are camped near water's edge. When you are collecting your camping gear, you will want to include equipment that is suitable for water activities.
Quick Check List
Beach: Bring swimsuits, flippers, flip flops, towels, sunhats, sunscreen, sunglasses, and beach umbrellas. If you have young children, pack plastic shovels and pails so that your kids can dig in the sand or make sandcastles.
Water: Water wings, inner tubes, towable clutches, floats, water mattresses, and floatable chairs and slides add to the allure of spending time in the water. These can be thrown into the trunk of the car when you are packing your camping gear and getting ready to head out. Inflatable boats also offer hours of enjoyment and can be deflated for easy storage when not in use. You can choose 1-4 person boats with oars or you may prefer kayaks with paddles. Inflatable boats come with double lock valves and are made from durable, scratch-resistant PVC. They include grab handles and oar holders and oar locks. Kayaks are also made from tough PVC and may include cup holders and tracking fins (for easy navigation). You'll also want to select a pump for your inflatables. Make sure you include life jackets if you will be spending time out on the water and keep an eye on little ones when they are playing close to the shore.
If you plan on fishing, remember to bring along your fishing rod and tackle. These camping gear items should not be left behind. Nothing compares to the taste of freshly caught fish cooked over a campfire. Your family will enjoy the feast, then beg you to go out and catch more!
If your camping plans include spending time near the water, you are very fortunate indeed. Once you've got your camping gear together, spending hours in the sunshine and the water can be the very best part of your summer.
